Inaccurate– What most people look for in golf simulations is a way to play the actual game in the comfort and convenience of their own home, and a simulation should feel like the actual game, says Golf Digest. You should not expect anything other than a true simulation when you buy one of these devices, and if you aren’t getting that, then you need to look for a different simulator. Once again, reviews are your friend, and you can use them to tell you what simulators offer the real deal.

I built my home simulator late last summer. I went with the SkyTrak w/Game Improvement Pkg for $1750 on sale, Rukket Haack Golf Net for $129, a used commercial grade 5×5 hitting mat (Grade A) for $200 off eBay. I used my old laptop and used it for displaying the shot data. I set mine up in my garage. I leave the net up full-time and move the mat in/out of position, if needed. This is a very workable and relatively affordable solution for $2079 in total.

The R-Motion uses a sensor that mounts onto your golf club. So, as with the Zepp Golf 2, the Rapsodo also allows you to record your performance while playing golf in real time. However, the interesting part is that it comes with its own golf simulator, which includes 15 different courses as presets, and can easily run on your PC without any additional requirements. The sensor studies values such as ball speed, club speed, smash factor, launch angle, distance, and the swing path to provide instant and accurate feedback, while the simulator depicts quite a realistic movement of the ball which includes bounces and rolls.
3) You should choose the OptiShot 2 Practice Package if you just want to get started with golf simulation. While OptiShot 2 is not as accurate as SkyTrak and doesn’t provide as much realism, some people just want to swing a club and get some feedback on their shots. This package includes the OptiShot 2, The Net Return Home Series Net, and Pro Turf Golf Mat and is a cheap golf simulator priced at $1,199.
Although the infrared sensors are the Optishot’s main features, it might not be enough for the experienced golfer. The reason is that this device will not measure the golf ball like many other systems out there. You’ll likely make a great shot every single time you hit the ball because OptiShot does not take into account gear effect and therefore doesn’t track the ball.
1) You should choose the SkyTrak SwingBay Golf Simulator if you are a mid handicapper looking to improve your game. While you won't get club head tracking with the SkyTrak, you will get a wide range of game improvement gameplay features such as bag mapping, practice randomizer, and more to help you dial in your distances. The accuracy of the SkyTrak combined with these game improvement features, makes the SkyTrak SwingBay an excellent value game improvement package.

Use it to quickly setup and manage leagues, tournaments and advertising with ease. The Player Locker Room stores golfer stats, allows players to review lessons and the Communication Portal connects golfers to you. This allows you to showcase tournament winners, upcoming events and prizing.
3) You should choose the SkyTrak Retractable Golf Simulator if you want your room to have multiple functions. This package has a retractable screen, allowing you to return your room back to normal when not in use making it an excellent garage golf simulator. The included HomeCourse Retractable screen can mount to your wall or ceiling and when paired with a portable golf mat like the Real Feel Country Club Elite, you will still be able to pull your car into your garage when not in use. The SkyTrak Retractable normally starts at $6,099 but is on sale now for $5,499 ($600 Off).

You can now purchase launch monitors from Foresight, Trackman, and Flightscope. Additionally, there are more premium packages from high-end home golf simulator companies like Full Swing Golf, SwingTrack and TRU GOLF. At these levels, you can expect to get much more accuracy concerning ball flight as well as your swing information. Additionally, the simulation software becomes much more robust.
This is the most crucial piece of the puzzle for your home golf simulator. The actual sensor system you choose will have an enormous impact on your experience. After speaking with Cory, I came to understand that there are endless variables. It all depends on the kind of golfer you are, your budget, the size of your room, how important accuracy is to you, and a host of other factors.
People opt for the projector setup because it simulates hitting the ball right down the fairway into the screen. Because of this you’ll obviously need a durable screen to hit into or a protective net in front of it.  Good projector screens that are strong enough to withstand repeated drives with a real golf ball can be quite expensive but there are a number of ways to get around this on a budget.  Here are a few options:
Welcome to Virtual Golf 2. This latest software update to TrackMan’s simulator golf solutions delivers an experience that redefines what is possible to achieve in a simulator environment. Every training session, every hole you play, every fun tournament you have with your friends… it’s all faithful to the true feeling of the game. World-famous courses appear in simply stunning detail. The gameplay is unbelievably smooth, all your club and ball data is shown with unerring, pinpoint accuracy. So if you think you know what simulator golf can do, think again.
This is probably the cheapest way to set up a golf simulator in your home. However, this version of OptiShot is not a launch monitor, and therefore it will not track the ball. The infrared sensors in the OptiShot are there to track your swing before you hit the ball and after you hit the ball. So, if you are looking for a professional and sophisticated golf simulator analysis like you get with the FlighScope or TrackMan, you should look for something else.
Some systems could cost you as much as $50,000 – $70,000. High-end home golf simulators can be outfitted in nice enclosures, and have the best of everything. If your budget fits into this premium category, it’s best to work with a home golf simulator company directly. It’s a significant investment, and you want to make sure you are going to be satisfied with your money.
At this price point, you are most likely looking at an OptiShot simulator. It’s currently around $300, and this is the entry level. You can have plenty of fun with a product like this, but be aware that the accuracy is limited. Optishot only measures the speed, path, and face angle of your club. From there it calculates where your ball is going but is not directly measuring the actual golf ball after impact. So you might not make great contact, but OptiShot would simulate a shot that was struck almost perfectly. It is essential to understand that the info provided could be misleading on individual shots, which could frustrate players.
