Another important factor is lighting, because the indoor brands can burn off their capability to trace your golf club in case of too much brightness. Also, have in mind the opposite; too low of light can make the system even lose track of your club. You’ll need to mess around with using the light to obtain the ideal level. It depends on the model and its sensors how much they can take of brightness or dark.
The hardest part about setting up your golf simulator will finding a the right space. A common area of space that many home simulators use is 10 feet wide by 15 feet long by 10 feet high. The minimum code for basement ceiling height is 7 feet and the OptiShot simulator recommends at least 8.5 feet—we recommend even more height than that if you plan on swinging your driver in the simulator. With that said, generally speaking the best spot for setting up your home golf simulator will be in the garage.
TrackMan simulator golf solutions also come with advanced facility management functions that help your business reap the most benefits from your investment. As well as giving you invaluable insights into how – and when – your simulator golf is being used, TrackMan facility management also makes it easy to plan and structure activities like tournaments and tables.
Here is another option from the same company, and it is offering a bit more at a higher price point. It’s under $1,000, which puts it in quite a few people’s budgets, but you need to understand what you are getting for the price. The mat, net, scoring equipment and other included components do an excellent job of helping you to practice, but this is considered a budget product, and you should realize that going in. It will last, but it won’t offer all the features of something that you would pay more than $1,000 for.
“As a professional golfer and tech enthusiast, I demand the best & most advanced equipment available. I love the HD Simulator because of its incredible realism & pinpoint accuracy. I was amazed at the technology and playing experience. My coach and I really like using the integrated video swing & weight transfer analysis to fine-tune my swing in real-time. When it comes to simulators, there is simply no comparison to HD Golf.”
Features– That brings us to the final consideration- the features. You can get a bare bones simulator that only does the basics, but you’ll get more mileage out of a fully featured simulator. One that can simulate different weather conditions or even allow you to play a virtual facsimile of actual golf courses will give you a lot more assistance than one that is decidedly simpler.
The competitive golfer requires accurate, comprehensive measurement to fade & shape their shots on-command. HD Golf™ pioneered Computer Vision Technology in the golf industry, and is the only to use high speed, programmable smart cameras to achieve this level of accuracy. Collectively, our CVT technology & smart cameras deliver pinpoint accuracy & exceptional shot analysis for every shot.
I've had this for a couple weeks now and have played a few rounds on TGC. Pretty fun. As others have noted, this won't register fat and thin swings. My distances also seemed off (short 15 to 20). Adjustments to the club's loft and shaft length (from head to bottom of sensor) helped dial my real distances I guess by changing club speed. It seems like path and club angle at impact are accurate. Can't really tell on side spin and have toed some swings that register as straight shots.
This is hands down the best golf simulator you can get for sheer value and features. There are a few others that offer a bit more, but not by much. This one is pricey, but it is well worth the investment, thanks to the included screen, the high quality equipment and the accurate readouts that help you improve your game and make you feel like you are really playing on a course.

I am doing a DYI system and would like to have a left and right handed tee position. I only have 12 feet between my walls. The system I have allows to move the hitting position off center by 2 feet. When I set that up, it doesn’t seem like there is enough space between the two hitting areas to stand. What is the preferred spacing and what position do you recommend?
Sophisticated golf simulator systems such as those found in most modern commercial simulators can cost upwards of $50k. While these systems perform amazingly they’re well over our home build budget. Here we’re recommending using the OptiShot as the “brains” of your home golf simulator because its performance is unrivaled in the $500 and under price range. The “brains” of your system is where you’ll want to spend the majority of your budget because if the simulator itself is not functioning correctly you’re left with nothing more than some balls and a net.
At this price point, you are most likely looking at an OptiShot simulator. It’s currently around $300, and this is the entry level. You can have plenty of fun with a product like this, but be aware that the accuracy is limited. Optishot only measures the speed, path, and face angle of your club. From there it calculates where your ball is going but is not directly measuring the actual golf ball after impact. So you might not make great contact, but OptiShot would simulate a shot that was struck almost perfectly. It is essential to understand that the info provided could be misleading on individual shots, which could frustrate players.
Not only can you record your swings, but you can actually replay them in a 360-degree view. This basically means that you do not just view your swing as if a camera recorded it, but instead, you get to see it from any angle you like, giving you an intimate understanding of how you perform. On top of all that, the fact that it offers 8 hours of battery time against only 1.5 hours of charging makes it very convenient to own.
This simulator does not come with as many accessories as some of the previous entries. However, what it may lose in versatility, it gains in technical prowess. The 3D Swing Analyzer is essentially a sensor that you wear on your hand that can connect to any device via Bluetooth. It analyzes the quality of the swing by measuring parameters such as club speed, club plane, backswing length, tempo, etc. But the real magic begins once your swing has been recorded. The Zepp Golf 2 has instant feedback capabilities, providing you with instant swing analysis as soon as your swing is complete. This prompt feedback allows you to improve your technique with each swing, making your practice session much more fruitful than it would have been otherwise.

Accuracy of Measurement: Comprehensive measurements are critical, but the accuracy of these measurements is equally important. HD Golf™ Simulators measure with supreme accuracy. For example, we measure club face angle contact to within 1/10th of 1 degree. We also measure ball spin to within +/- 100rpm while competitor systems estimate (“calculate”) spin.
The thing is, golf simulators are genuinely worth the money. They’re excellent for recreational use, training golf swings, and keeping your swing in shape without having to go to the golf course. A number of the pricier designs are even capable of helping you to fit your golf clubs, and the sensors will provide you data about errors that you are making in your swing.
The Rapsodo, with its simulator, is a great alternative to an actual day on the course, as well. Even during the worst of seasons, you can consistently practice and maintain your daily golf routine simply by hooking it up to your computer and receiving feedback on your swings on your screen. The only roadblock you might face in that process, however, is that the nature of the sensor is such that you do need to be hitting an actual ball with an actual club in order for it to be effective. So, you may have to invest in a golf net and a golf mat if you do not own these already.
Inaccurate– What most people look for in golf simulations is a way to play the actual game in the comfort and convenience of their own home, and a simulation should feel like the actual game, says Golf Digest. You should not expect anything other than a true simulation when you buy one of these devices, and if you aren’t getting that, then you need to look for a different simulator. Once again, reviews are your friend, and you can use them to tell you what simulators offer the real deal.
